If you are interested in local history, architecture, art, stone, wood, textiles, or religious studies then why not join the Arts Society Dartmouth and Kingswear Church Recording Group?

We are a group of enthusiasts who meet regularly through the year to record the interior of a local church. This will involve us in making a written and photographic record of the stonework, the memorials, the windows, all the woodwork, the silver and metalwork, textiles and vestments, and the books and the records in the Church and kept at the County record office. Most of this work involves further gentle research into names and connections, and the history of the building and local people. It will provoke interest in the vast source of work on stained glass and create excitement in the detective work needed to see how the changes to the building its floors, galleries, benches and artifacts have been influenced over the centuries by changing forms of worship and social patterns.

We have recently recorded St Peter’s Church Stoke Fleming and have started to record St Saviour’s Church Dartmouth. To see a selection of photographs from churches recorded by The Arts Society Dartmouth and Kingswear Church Recording Group visit the 'Gallery' page.

No previous experience is needed, we take a flexible approach to attendance and you need have no commitment to any religion
